JESUS IN THE GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE

JESUS IN THE GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE

HUMAN SOUL VERSES THE SPIRIT OF GOD

Luke 22:39–46 (NKJV)

Christ Prays in Gethsemane

Matt. 26:36–46; Mark 14:32–42; John 18:1

39 Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him. 40 When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

41 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” 43 Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. 44 And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

45 When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow. 46 Then He said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.”

Many years ago the Lord gave me revelations of these scriptures above. Before I go into comments and sharing the revelation the Lord gave me we need to go back to the Words of Jesus in the gospels.

Matthew 16:24–26 (NKJV)

Revelation of Jesus’ Reward

Mark 8:34–37; Luke 9:23–25

24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

I provided the scriptures from Matthew 16 to lay the foundation of understanding what Jesus went through in the Garden of Gethsemane. What really transpired when the scripture says His sweat became like great drops of blood was the separation of the human from the divine. It takes the power of God to crucify a man/woman and we can not do it alone nor desire to do it without total denial of our own will/soul. It was the separation of the Son of Man and the Son of God taking place. A human soul does not want to die to self and will try to appose the things of Christ Jesus. Notice that an angel appeared and strengthened Jesus. Like I said, it takes the power of God to crucify a man/woman!

Galatians 2:20 (NKJV)

20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Galatians 6:14 (NKJV)

14 But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

1 Corinthians 15:31 (NKJV)

31 I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

Paul makes reference to the spirit at war with the flesh. Jesus tells us about the two commandments about loving God and loving your neighbors.

Galatians 5:17 (NKJV)

17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

Matthew 22:37–40 (NKJV)

37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

So when we preach or present the gospel we should include that we are to pick up or cross and die to ourselves and follow Christ Jesus. Without the indwelling Holy Spirit a person it is impossible to be “crucified with Christ”. We must “bow” to the Holy Spirit in us and allow the Lord to perform His sanctification process leading us to holiness and being conformed and restored into His image and likeness.

May you be blessed, encouraged and steadfast in your walk with the Lord rendering sanctification without spot or wrinkle.

Ephesians 5:26–27 (NKJV)

26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
